It is late afternoon in August. You have been on a jobsite, a soccer sideline, or a Galveston beach since morning, and now your head is pounding and water is not touching it. Houston heat and humidity can pull fluid out of you faster than you can drink it back.

An IV skips the stomach and puts fluids and electrolytes straight into your bloodstream, bypassing digestion for full absorption. An experienced medical professional comes to your home, office, or hotel, sets up your infusion, and continuously monitors the infusion until completion.

Signs you are more dehydrated than you think

  • A headache behind your eyes that will not break
  • Dark urine, or very little of it
  • Dizziness when you stand up
  • Muscle cramps, especially at night
  • Dry mouth, dry skin, and chapped lips
  • You keep drinking water and still feel wrung out
  • Fatigue and brain fog after a day outside, a hard workout, or a stomach bug

When to call 911 instead: Severe dehydration is an emergency. Confusion, fainting, a racing heart at rest, or no urine for 12 hours or more needs an emergency room, not a house call. We will tell you the same thing on the phone.

How an IV helps with dehydration

When you drink water, your gut absorbs it slowly, and when you are nauseated or depleted, much of it does little good. An IV delivers a liter of fluid and electrolytes directly into your vein, so nothing waits on digestion.

Every infusion is built on a base of 0.9% normal saline or Lactated Ringers, and you can add B vitamins, vitamin C, or other mix-ins. Most IVs run 30 to 60 minutes. Some people feel better right away, and others notice the difference over the next 24 hours.

Questions about IVs for dehydration

How much faster is an IV than drinking water?

An IV bypasses digestion, so fluids reach your bloodstream right away instead of over several hours. Most IVs run 30 to 60 minutes. Keep drinking water afterward: the IV gets you back to even, and water keeps you there.

How do I know if I need an IV?

If you have a persistent headache, dark urine, dizziness, or cramps and drinking fluids is not fixing it, an IV may help. If you are confused, fainting, or have not urinated in 12 hours or more, go to the ER. That is beyond what a mobile IV should handle, and we will say so.

Can you come to a jobsite or an outdoor event?

Yes. We set up anywhere with a chair and some shade: homes, offices, hotels, and worksites across Greater Houston and surrounding areas. Groups of 4 or more can ask about our group discounts, and for large groups, we bring additional providers so the whole group infuses at once.

Does insurance cover a dehydration IV?

Insurance does not cover IV therapy. You pay by card at the time of service. Many clients use HSA or FSA cards, but eligibility is decided by your plan administrator. The only additions are the $25 pre-IV medical screening and a $100 fee for appointments after 8 PM, which are subject to provider availability.
